My Year of the Tiger | Boris Marushchak
Before we begin - a few words to start....
I got to Tigers de facto the third time, which even for myself I firmly defined as the last time I consciously send a resume to Tigers on my own. This time without expectations, I just send and see what happens.
📱Brrrr brrr... About two weeks later the phone rang. They invited me to the first stage of recruitment, where the gatekeeper was Konrad Kwiatkowski. And right at the beginning, you had to use the ability to be flexible and clever, assuring Konrad that setting up a JDG was not a problem (and at that time the process for a foreigner was a bit more complicated than it is now). The second stage - a conversation with the perfo pigs, where I felt that substantively I licked a lot more. And a final conversation with the CEO and Heads of departments and voilà I'm home.
The biggest challenge
A few months pass and the organization begins to make drastic structural moves. Space appears for me to take a Team Leader position, which I gladly take advantage of. I get a team and am completely at a loss as to what to do next.
How to behave? What to say to people with whom just yesterday I was on the same footing?
After all, my team will challenge me, how to deal with that? How do I reconcile customer leads and team development at the same time? How do I even bite on the topic of team development?
IN SUM: WHAT DO THESE PEOPLE WANT FROM ME!
I fell into several months of "meditation." Outwardly I was calm, sometimes all too much so, and I exuded a confidence that I tried to show in front of clients.
But inside was a total armageddon. Fighting with myself, my emotions, projections and fears. And of course the daily answer to the question, "Am I even fit to be a Team Leader?" The only option to win was - fast learning. I absorbed the experience of other, more experienced Team Leaders as much as I did of Frank, Karolina, Konrad and Sabina. I was constantly trying to develop my own style, create methods, and not just rely on the advice of others.
Books, podcasts, articles, and conversations with familiar managers and executives from other companies who have had these challenges - this was my main focus.
2022.
I manage a team with the internal name "Badgers". Very slowly I begin to see the results of my work in the form of a stable team that no longer de facto needs me. This is the most rewarding moment, when you understand that you have contributed to the development of people and have developed an atmosphere with them where they want to come back every Monday and work with each other.
Boris on our team is like Mel Gibson in Braveheart. He is able to effectively guide and motivate the team to achieve our goals, while providing valuable guidance and knowledge. He always leads by example with his work and shows a deep understanding of each issue.
He can be relied on in crisis situations. There should be a picture of him in the encyclopedia under Team Leader! 😉

Boris, as Team Leader, gives space for development, is able to listen and catch the most important aspects in the development of his specialists. As a performance specialist, he is an absolute mine of knowledge. There is no question that Boris does not know the answer to! At his lectures, trainings, presentations everyone listens with bated breath and at the very end the listeners don't want to let him go because they always run out of things to say. No wonder. Boris transmits his knowledge always relevant to who he is talking to, they make performance language a real Esperanto. I myself don't know whether I value him more for being a turbo spec or a mature Team Leader. I'm lucky that I don't have to choose.

Then what's next!
Back in 2022, I and my team began working on a then still mini-project with the working name "e-Commerce cell".
Last year, the main purpose of this creation was to expand the portfolio of services in the agency. Somewhat treated as a test - without undue pressure, because you don't know if it will succeed.
It worked! I discovered that I have a knack for innovative solutions, new product launches and slightly more complicated things.
That's why in 2023, thanks to the trust and opportunities given to us by Karolina and Franek, I am responsible for a cell that has its revenue targets set and a structure where ... fire happens.
